Micron Technology is a major American company that makes computer memory.

These parts are vital because they help computers store and remember data. The company makes things like DRAM, which is a type of memory used while a computer is running. They also create flash memory and solid-state drives, known as SSDs.

SSDs are tools that keep your files safe even when the power is off. Micron is one of the "Big Three" memory makers in the world. It stands alongside two large companies from South Korea.

Making these tiny chips involves very careful steps. One way they work is through a method called atomic layer deposition. This helps them create special films for their memory devices. This process makes the memory more cost-effective to build. Another important method is called pitch double-patterning. This technique helped them develop 30-nm class NAND flash memory. This way of working has since been used by many other makers around the world. These small steps allow computers to hold huge amounts of information.

The company has a long history that began in 1978. Four people named Ward Parkinson, Joe Parkinson, Dennis Wilson, and Doug Pitman started it. They began in Boise, Idaho, as a design company. In 1981, they built their first factory to make chips. This first unit was called "Fab 1." They produced 64K DRAM chips during that time. Later, in 1994, Joe Parkinson retired and Steve Appleton became the leader. The company grew by joining with other businesses in the 1990s.

Micron has reached many big milestones over the years. In 2006, they owned a brand called Lexar.

In 2019, they announced a microSD card that could hold 1 terabyte of data. They also worked with Nvidia to make very fast graphics memory. Today, the company is very large and valuable. It is ranked 150th on the Fortune 500 list. By February 2026, its market value was about $463.33 billion. This makes it one of the 100 most valuable companies in the world.

You can see Micron's work in many gadgets you use. For example, their memory might be inside an iPhone or an iPad. They have also made memory cards for cameras.

The company is now focusing more on big data centers and artificial intelligence. They are also building many new factories in the United States. They plan to spend billions of dollars in places like Idaho and New York. This helps keep the technology that runs our world moving forward.
