Michel Temer

Michel Temer is a person who played a major role in Brazil.

He was a lawyer, a writer, and a politician. His parents came to Brazil from a village in Lebanon called Btaaboura. They moved in 1925 to escape famine and hard times. Temer grew up as the youngest of seven children. As a young boy, he wanted to be a pianist. Later, he decided he wanted to be a writer. He studied many subjects before finishing law school in 1963.

Temer spent many years working in the law and in government. He became a professor of law at a university in 1968. He wrote several important books about how the Brazilian government works. One famous book from 1982 sold over 240,000 copies. He also wrote a book of 120 poems in 2013. He wrote many of these poems on napkins during plane trips.

His political career lasted for a very long time. He served many terms in the Chamber of Deputies. This is a place where leaders make laws for the country. He also led a large political party called the PMDB. In 2011, he became the vice president of Brazil. He worked alongside the president, Dilma Rousseff, for several years.

In 2016, a big change happened in the Brazilian government. The Senate voted to remove President Rousseff from her job. This process is called an impeachment. Because of this vote, Temer became the acting president on May 12, 2016. On August 31, 2016, he officially became the 37th president.

He wanted to fix the country's spending and change some laws. However, many people in Brazil were unhappy with his leadership. Some polls showed that very few people approved of his work.

Temer also faced many difficult legal investigations during his time in office. Some people accused him of taking money that was not his. Investigators looked into whether he received bribes from big companies. Temer always said he did nothing wrong and denied the claims. He did not run for president again in the 2018 election. Instead, a new leader named Jair Bolsonaro took over the job.
