During the war, he served in the Royal Air Force. After the war, he finished his studies. In 1952, he made a big discovery. He used grids to find patterns in the marks. He found out that Linear B was an old form of Greek. This changed what we knew about history. It showed that ancient Crete was part of Mycenaean Greece. Ventris died in a car crash in 1956. He was only 34 years old. Today, we honor him in many ways. There is a crater on the moon named after him. There is also a street named for him on the island of Crete.
