This animal looked like a small shrew. It probably ate insects and small reptiles. It had four types of teeth. These were called heterodont teeth. This means the teeth were not all the same. It had incisors, canines, premolars, and molars. These teeth let it chew food very well.

Megazostrodon was likely nocturnal. This means it was active at night. It had a large brain for sounds and smells. This helped it stay safe from dinosaurs. It also helped it find food in the dark.

Its body was built for moving fast. It had a single bone in its lower jaw. This bone is called the dentary. Its ancestors had many bones in their jaws. In later mammals, those old bones moved to the ear. This helped them hear better.

Scientists found two kinds of this animal. One was found in Lesotho. A person named Ione Rudner found it in 1966. The other was found in France. It was named after Emmanuel Chenal. We think it might have laid eggs.
