He was part of a group called the symbolists. This group used art to show deep ideas. Max also wrote books about art. He was a critic, too. He translated French poems into Russian.

Max loved to travel. He walked across much of Russia. He visited Greece, Turkey, and Egypt. He also spent time in France. These trips changed how he saw the world. He lived in a place called Koktebel. He wrote many poems about the hills and the sea there. He even painted the land with soft colors.

Max was a very kind person. During a hard war, he helped many people. He used a secret spot in his house to hide them. He wanted to protect everyone. He even set up a home for other writers. Today, his house is a museum. People from all over the world visit it. Max is buried on a mountain in Koktebel. That mountain now bears his name.
