He rode for over 52 hours to win it! In 1903, he won the very first Tour de France. This was a new race that went all around France. He won 3,000 francs for his big win.

Some races were not always fair or safe. In 1904, there was a lot of trouble during the Tour de France. Some fans were mean to the riders. Garin was even hit by a stone during the race. Because of rules being broken by many riders, Garin lost his title from that year. Even so, he remains a legend in the world of cycling.
