Marmoset

life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Marmosets are small monkeys from South America. They live in many places like Brazil and Peru. They also live in parts of Central America.

These monkeys live high in the forest trees. They use claws instead of nails to climb. They also have special hairs on their wrists. Marmosets eat many things like fruit and bugs. They love to eat tree sap. They use long front teeth to chew holes in wood. This lets them reach the sap inside.

Marmosets live in family groups. These groups have three to 15 members. Most groups have one or two moms. They also have a male and their babies. Many members help care for the young. Dads are very helpful parents. They help when a baby is born. They even help clean the newborn.

Marmosets talk to each other with sounds. They use chirps and trills. They also make a long "phee" call. This call helps them find friends from far away. They use different calls for different friends. It is almost like using a name.
