Many people live in this city. As of 2024, about 600,000 people call it home.

The name Mansoura means "victorious" in Arabic. This name comes from a famous battle in the year 1250. During the Seventh Crusade, the Egyptians defeated the French forces. King Louis IX of France was even captured during the Battle of Fariskur. He was kept in the house of Ibrahim Ibn Lokman. Today, that house is the Mansoura National Museum.

You can see his old things there. The museum even has his personal toilet from the thirteenth century!

History is found in many streets of the city. Mansoura was first built in 1219 by al-Kamil. He chose a spot near older villages like Al-Bishtamir. The city has many special buildings to see. The Shinnawi Palace was built by an Italian architect in 1928. There is also a large mosque called El-Saleh Ayoub El-Kebir. It sits on Al-Sagha Street. This street separates the old part of the city from the modern part.
