Manolete was a famous bullfighter from Spain. His real name was Manuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez. He was born in 1917. His father was also a bullfighter. Manolete was known for his serious style. He did not try to please the crowd. Instead, he focused on great skill. He could stand very still. The bull would pass very close to him. He also linked many passes together in one spot. He made a new move called the Manoletina. This was a special pass with a red cloth.

Manolete fought in many big rings. He even had great wins in Mexico. Sadly, he died in 1947. He was fighting a bull named Islero in Linares. The bull gored him in the thigh. This event shocked many people in Spain. Some people think he died from a blood transfusion error. His life has inspired many artists. A painter named Salvador Dalí made a painting about him.
