Many legends tell stories about him. One story says he was the son of the sun god, Inti. He and his family traveled with a golden staff. They were told to build a temple where the staff sank into the ground. Another story says he was a hero who united many tribes.

Manco Cápac died a natural death. His son, Sinchi Roca, became the next leader. After he died, people kept his body. Later, a ruler moved it to a special temple on Isla del Sol.
