Long ago, Manchester was a major center for making things. It was home to the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company. This was the largest cotton mill in the world. Many people moved there to work. Many were immigrants from France and Canada. The city grew very fast during this time.

Today, the city is changing again. Many old mill buildings are being used for new things. Some are now offices for high-tech companies. Others are used as apartments.
