People can make it in many ways. One way is to heat magnesium carbonate. Another way is to treat seawater. This makes magnesium hydroxide. When you heat that, it turns into magnesium oxide. The heat level changes how it works. High heat makes a form that does not react much. Low heat makes a form that reacts easily.

This mineral is very useful. It is a refractory material. This means it stays strong in high heat. It is used to make crucibles, which are containers for melting things. It is also used in electric stove parts. It helps keep electricity in the right place.

Magnesium oxide helps in many other ways too. It can help your stomach feel better. It is used as an antacid for heartburn. It is even used as a plant fertilizer. In construction, it helps make cement. It can also be used in wallboards to stop fires. It even helps clean water by making it less acidic.
