She was a master of the bias cut. This is a way to cut fabric at a 45-degree angle.

This method lets the cloth stretch and cling to the body. It helps the dress move with the person wearing it.

Madeleine wanted her clothes to be simple and soft. She did not use stiff parts like corsets. Instead, she looked at ancient Greek art for ideas. She wanted clothes to float freely around the body. She made about 12,000 garments in her career. Many famous actresses wore her beautiful gowns.

She also cared deeply for the people who worked for her. Madeleine gave her workers paid holidays and maternity leave. She even provided a dining hall and a doctor. She opened her own fashion house in Paris in 1912. Wars forced her to close it twice. Even so, her unique style changed how women dress today. Many modern designers still use her ideas.
