Many stars in Lynx are part of interesting systems. The brightest star is Alpha Lyncis. This is an orange giant star located 203 light-years away. It is about 55 times wider than our Sun. It also shines with 673 times the brightness of the Sun. Another star is called Alsciaukat. It is also an evolved giant star. It is between 59 and 75 times as wide as our Sun. Lynx is also full of double stars. These are two stars that orbit each other. For example, 15 Lyncis is a pair of yellow stars. They orbit each other every 262 years. 
A man named Johannes Hevelius created this constellation in 1687. He took 19 faint stars from an old group called Jordanus Fluvius. He placed them between Ursa Major and Auriga. He named it Lynx because the stars are very dim. He said only people with eyes like a lynx could see them. He also used the name Tigris in his notes. Later, John Flamsteed included it in his own catalog in 1712. In 1930, Eugène Delporte set the official borders for the constellation. These borders are defined by a shape with 20 segments. 
Scientists have found planets in six different star systems in Lynx. Two of these were found using the Doppler method. This method looks for changes in a star's movement. Four planets were found using the transit method. This happens when a planet passes in front of its star. One planet orbits the star 6 Lyncis every 899 days. Another planet orbits XO-4 every 4.1 days. The star WASP-13 has a planet that orbits every 4.35 days. These discoveries show how many worlds are hiding in the dark. 
Lynx also holds very deep objects in space. One is a globular cluster called NGC 2419. This is a round group of many distant stars. It is between 275,000 and 300,000 light-years away. Another object is a very distant quasar named APM 08279+5255. Its light is split into many images. This happens because of gravitational lensing from a galaxy. The Lynx Supercluster is also found here. It was the most distant supercluster known when it was found in 1999. These objects show us how huge the universe is.

Two of these stars orbit each other with a period estimated between 700 and 900 years. The star Y Lyncis is also famous among amateur astronomers. It is a red supergiant that is 580 times the diameter of the Sun. 
Astronomers have discovered exoplanets in six different star systems within these borders. Two planets were found using the Doppler method. This method detects planets by watching for changes in a star's movement. Four other planets were found using the transit method. This happens when a planet passes directly in front of its host star. For instance, the planet orbiting XO-4 has a very short orbital period of 4.1 days. Another planet orbits the star WASP-13 every 4.35 days. These findings help us understand how different planetary systems form.
The constellation also contains deep-sky objects that are incredibly far away. One is NGC 2419, a globular cluster of many stars. It is between 275,000 and 300,000 light-years from Earth. It is so distant that it was once called the "Intergalactic Wanderer." 

Finally, Lynx contains massive structures like the Lynx Supercluster. This was the most distant supercluster known at the time of its discovery in 1999. The area also hosts the galaxy NGC 2770. This spiral galaxy has hosted three recent Type Ib supernovae. A supernova is a massive stellar explosion. One specific event, SN 2008D, was the first supernova detected by its X-rays. This allowed scientists to see the very first moments of the explosion. These diverse objects show how Lynx connects local stars to the vast reaches of the universe.
