People often call her "La Maga," which means "The Magician." This nickname comes from her amazing skills on the field. She was very fast when she ran. She was also great at dribbling the ball past other players. Some fans even call her the "Maradona of Field Hockey." This compares her to a famous Argentine football player named Diego Maradona. She is considered the best female hockey player of all time.

Luciana learned how to play the game at a young age. She started playing when she was only seven years old. She first played for a club called Club Atlético Fisherton in Rosario. Six years later, she moved to the Jockey Club de Rosario. To train with the junior national team, she traveled to Buenos Aires every day. Later, she played for clubs in other countries too. She played for Rot Weiss Köln in Germany and Real Club de Barcelona in Spain. She also played for GEBA and Quilmes Atlético Club in Argentina.

Her career with the Argentina national team was full of success. She joined the senior team in 1998 when she was just 16. This made her the youngest person ever accepted into the squad. Luciana was part of a group that won many big trophies. Her team won four Olympic medals and six Champions Trophies. She helped Argentina win the Hockey World Cup in 2002 and 2010. The 2010 win was special because it happened in her hometown of Rosario.

She won those awards in 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2013. In 2010, she also received the Platinum Konex Award. This award named her the best hockey player of the last decade in Argentina. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she was the flag bearer for her country. This was a huge honor for her as an athlete.

Today, Luciana's impact on the sport is still very strong. A documentary film called "Lucha: Playing the Impossible" tells her story. The title uses her nickname, Lucha, which also means "fight" in Spanish. In her hometown, there is a huge stadium named after her. It is called the Estadio Mundialista Luciana Aymar. The stadium was built to host the 2010 Women's Field Hockey World Cup. It can hold 12,000 people who come to watch the game.
