Many artists helped run the show. These artists included Claude Monet and Edgar Degas. They also included Berthe Morisot.

Leroy saw a painting by Claude Monet. The painting was called Impression, Sunrise. Leroy did not like it. He wrote a funny review to tease the artists. He used the word "impressionists" as a joke. He thought the work looked unfinished. He said it looked like wallpaper patterns.

But a funny thing happened. The artists liked the name! They began to call themselves Impressionists. This became a very famous way to make art. It is one of the most important art groups in history.
