Liu Tianhua was a great music maker. He lived in China. He played a two-stringed fiddle called the erhu. He also played a string instrument called the pipa.

Liu wanted to make old music new. He changed the erhu for big stages. He added more frets to the pipa. These changes helped the music sound better.

He started a group for Chinese music. This group helped people learn to play. It even helped start a large orchestra.

Liu wrote many beautiful songs. Some songs sounded like birds in the mountains. He died when he was thirty-seven. His students kept his music alive for us.
