It is like a calendar for faith. The year is split into different seasons. Each season has its own mood and way of praying.

Churches use special colors to show these seasons. These colors can be on cloths called paraments. They can also be on the clothes of leaders.

Many churches use a list to know which Bible stories to read. This list is called a lectionary. Some churches use a three-year cycle of readings. Others use a two-year cycle.

In the East Syriac tradition, the year has many seasons too. These seasons follow the life of Jesus. One season is called Subara. It begins before December. It ends with the feast of Epiphany.

Another season is called Great Fast. This is a time for people to pray and fast. They might not eat meat or fish during this time. This helps them prepare for the Resurrection. The Resurrection is the most important feast of the year.
