It is one of the oldest statues ever found. Experts think it is between 35,000 and 41,000 years old. A person carved it from mammoth ivory, which is a large tooth. They used a sharp flint stone knife to make it. This was a very hard job. It may have taken more than 370 hours to finish. Someone had to be a very skilled artist to do this.

People found the statue in pieces in a German cave. They found many small fragments in the dirt. For a long time, the pieces were forgotten. Later, researchers worked hard to put them all together. They used new pieces to make the statue taller. It is now about 311 millimetres tall.

Some people think the statue was used for special rituals. It shows that early people had deep ideas about nature. The Lion-man is now kept in the Museum Ulm in Germany.
