It sits in Indonesia. The islands are south of Singapore. They are near the Riau Province on Sumatra island. The equator, an imaginary line around the Earth, goes through the top of Lingga Island. This is the main island in the group.

Many people live in this area. Most are Malay, Bugis, or Chinese. Most people follow the religion of Islam. Fishing is the main way people earn money. There are also fine beaches with coral. However, not many people visit. This is because it is hard to travel there.

Lingga Island has a famous mountain. It has three sharp peaks. Malay poets use this mountain in their poems. They say it is a symbol of strength. You can also find the old Benteng Bukit Cening fort. It looks over the sea. You can still see cannons lined up there. Some islands in the group are quite large. These are Lingga, Singkep, Sebangka, and Bakung. The main town is called Daik. It sits on Lingga Island.
