The Limpopo River is a very large river in Africa.

It starts in South Africa. The water flows east through Mozambique. Finally, it reaches the Indian Ocean. It is the second largest river to flow into that ocean.

The river acts like a border. It separates South Africa from Botswana and Zimbabwe. Many rivers flow into the Limpopo. One big one is the Olifants River. Another is the Notwane River. The Notwane starts near the Kalahari Desert.

Life near the river changes. The top parts are very dry. Other parts have forests. About 14 million people live in the river basin. Many people work in mines there.

You might see many animals. Hippos live in the water. Nile crocodiles also live there. A Zambezi shark was even caught far up the river! The water can move slowly and look grey-green.

Sometimes the weather is hard. Heavy rain can cause big floods. In the year 2000, a cyclone caused a large flood in Mozambique.
