Lidia grew up in a small village. Her parents died when she was very young. She lived in an orphanage for much of her childhood. Later, she worked in a furniture factory. An owner heard her singing and told her to study music.

Lidia became very popular in the 1930s. During World War II, she traveled to help soldiers. She sang songs to help them feel brave. Two famous songs, Valenki and Katyusha, were written just for her. She even gave money to help the army build tools for war.

Lidia faced hard times later in life. She was sent to prison for ten years. Even there, people loved her singing. After she was released, she went back to her music right away. She sang until she died in 1973. Today, a crater on the planet Venus bears her name.
