Lewis worked in many ways. He served in the army during a war. He also worked for the government. He even worked for a group in Palestine. Later, he was a professor at the University of Manchester. Students cheered for him when he finished his last class.

Lewis changed how people study the past. Most people thought politics was about big ideas. Lewis thought it was about people. He used old tax records and wills to study them. He wanted to see what leaders really cared about. He found that local interests often changed how people voted. This new way of thinking is sometimes called "Namierism." He wrote many important books about the history of Parliament. His work helped us see the real lives of leaders.
