Law of Poland

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

The legal system in Poland is a way to organize how people live and work together. This system has been growing for over 1,000 years. The most important rule in the whole country is the Constitution of Poland. Poland uses what is called civil law. This means the rules are written down in organized sets called codes. One major set is the Civil Code of Poland.

Making laws is a step-by-step process handled by the Polish parliament. The parliament has two different parts called houses. The lower house is called the Sejm. The upper house is called the Senat. These groups create new legislation, which is another word for laws. Once a law is made, it is published in official papers like the Dziennik Ustaw.

Laws in Poland cover many different parts of daily life. There are rules for families and for people working in jobs. Some laws help manage things like water, mining, and even driving cars. There are also rules for taxes and for protecting things people create, called copyright law. Even the media and the way people trade goods have their own sets of rules.

Business laws in Poland can be quite complex. There are many different ways to be an entrepreneur, which is a person who runs a business. For example, a sole proprietor is one person working alone. A company can be a larger group of people working together. Some companies are called cooperatives, where people work as a team. A very popular choice is the limited liability company, or Spółka z o.o.

Different types of groups have different rules to follow. Some groups, like professional partnerships, are for people like doctors or lawyers. Other groups are called foundations or associations to help with social goals. There are even special rules for sports groups that represent a country. All these different rules work together to keep the country running smoothly.
