These places are called integrated resorts. They often have hotels, shops, and large spaces for meetings. The company is a huge part of the world of travel and gaming. In 2024, it was the second-largest casino company in the world. It earned $11.3 billion USD in revenue that year. This put it ahead of Caesars Entertainment but behind MGM Resorts International.

Building these massive resorts involves many complex steps. The company often builds on land that was made by people. In Macau, they worked on the Cotai Strip, which is made of reclaimed land. This land was created through public works projects. Once the land is ready, they build themed hotels. For example, The Venetian is modeled after Venice, Italy. They also build huge spaces for events. By 2011, much of the company's profit came from renting out these convention spaces.

Sheldon G. Adelson helped start this big venture. In 1989, he and his partners bought the Sands Hotel and Casino. They used money from computer trade shows to help grow. They built the Sands Expo and Convention Center in 1990. Later, they demolished the old Sands Hotel to build The Venetian. The Venetian opened in 1999. In 2005, they began building The Palazzo. Together, these two hotels make the world's largest hotel under one roof. They have 7,000 all-suite rooms and cover 17 million square feet.

They also built the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore in 2010. This was the most expensive hotel and casino ever built. It cost $5.6 billion to make. It has three 57-story towers. A 3-acre SkyPark connects the towers at the very top.

This resort set a record by making a $600 million operating profit just eight months after opening.

You might recognize these buildings from movies or travel books. Many of these resorts look like famous places in the real world. The Venetian looks like Italy, and The Parisian Macao looks like France. Even the company works to be kind to the Earth. They use a plan called Sands ECO360. This plan helps them find ways to save water and energy. Some of their buildings in Singapore even have special green certifications. They want to make sure their huge buildings are managed in a smart way.
