Many years later, the kingdom grew very strong. King Tilokaraj ruled from 1441 to 1487. He was a great patron of Buddhism. He helped build many beautiful temples. But the kingdom later faced many struggles. Fighting between leaders made Lan Na weak.

Other powerful lands began to take control. In 1558, the Burmese took over. They ruled for a long time. Some kings in Lan Na had little power. Later, local leaders fought back. In 1775, chiefs joined Siam. Siam is the place we now call Thailand. King Taksin of Siam gained control in 1776. By 1909, Lan Na was no longer an independent state. It became part of the Siamese nation. The old kingdom changed into a new part of a larger country.
