Many fish live in the water. The land nearby is fertile. This means it is good for farming. People use water from the lake to grow crops.

Rivers bring water to the lake. The Chari River and the Logone River are very important. They bring most of the water. The lake's size can change a lot. It depends on rain and heat.

In the past, the lake was much bigger. This was called Mega-Chad. It was a very deep and wide sea.

Today, the lake has shrunk. This happened because the climate became drier. People also moved water away for farms. The lake level goes up and down with the seasons. It is highest in November and December. It is lowest in June and July.
