These bacteria help the body in a special way. This is called a mutualistic relationship. This means they help the body by fighting off bad germs. In return, the body gives them nutrients, which are things they need to grow. They also make biofilms. A biofilm is a thin layer that helps them stay in one place. This helps them survive in harsh spots.

Many people eat Lactobacillus in food like yogurt. These are called probiotics. They can help with skin issues like eczema. They might also help with diarrhea.

Lactobacillus use a way of making power called metabolism. They take sugars and turn them into lactate. This is a type of acid. Some types of these bacteria also make gas or alcohol. Scientists have studied many kinds of these tiny life forms.
