Sunni Muslims use six major books to study their faith. These books are called the Kutub al-Sittah. They hold hadith, which are stories about the Prophet Muhammad. These stories show how to follow his traditions. Most of these books were made in the 9th and 10th centuries.

Two books are very famous. They are called the Sahihayn, or the Two Sahihs. The word "Sahih" means "sound." This means the stories are very reliable. The first is by al-Bukhari. He worked on his book for sixteen years. The second is by Muslim. These two books are the most important to many scholars.

The other four books are also very important. They are by Abu Dawud, al-Nasa'i, al-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Majah. Some scholars use different books for the sixth one. They might use a book by Malik ibn Anas instead.

Each book is organized in its own way. Some use headings to group stories by topic. Others list the stories in a specific order. These books help people learn how to live their lives. They have been used for many hundreds of years.
