The weather in Kuantan follows a tropical rainforest climate. This means the city has two main seasons. One is a hot season that can reach 40 degrees Celsius. During this time, winds blow from Sumatra toward the West Coast. The other is the rainy season from October to March.

Kuantan has a very long history with many different rulers. In the first century, it was part of the Chih-Tu empire. Later, the Pheng-Kheng empire and the Siamese ruled the land. During the 15th century, the Malaccan Empire held control. The city was founded in the 1850s by Haji Senik and his followers.
