Many people in different lands share similar stories. In Cambodia, they call this spirit the Ahp. In the Philippines, people tell of the manananggal. These stories are part of many local traditions. Some say the Krasue has a soft glow. This light may look like a small fire.

Why does the Krasue exist? Many legends say it is a curse. In Thailand, some believe it comes from past sins. Other stories say a woman used wrong magic. This caused her head and body to separate. The spirit is always very hungry. It may look for food in the dark.

People use clever ways to stay safe. They grow spiky plants like bamboo. The Krasue fears thorns. Thorns might catch her organs. Families also hide clothes at night. They do not want the spirit to touch them.
