Sir Konstantin Novoselov is a famous physicist who studies the tiny building blocks of our world. He was born in 1974 in Nizhny Tagil, which was then part of the Soviet Union. He is a person with both Russian and British citizenship. Today, he holds many important jobs at universities around the world. He is a professor at the National University of Singapore. He is also a professor at the University of Manchester. He even serves as the President of Constructor University in Germany.

Novoselov is most famous for his work with a material called graphene. Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms. It is so thin that it is only one atom thick. This makes it a two-dimensional material. He and his colleague, Andre Geim, discovered how to isolate this single layer. Their work showed that graphene has very special electronic properties. Because of these groundbreaking experiments, they won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010.

His journey into science involved many years of hard study. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1997. Later, he earned his PhD from Radboud University in the Netherlands in 2004. He worked closely with Andre Geim during this time. Since then, he has published hundreds of research papers. He has studied many things, such as how magnetic walls move. He also helped discover gecko tape.

Novoselov has received many honors for his scientific discoveries. In 2010, he became a Nobel laureate. He was the youngest person to win the Nobel Prize in physics since 1973. He was also named a Knight Bachelor in 2012. This title was given to him for his services to science. He has helped lead the National Graphene Institute in Manchester. He also helped start a new center in Singapore called IFIM. This center has $200 million in funding to study smart materials.

Beyond his science work, Novoselov is a very creative person who loves art. He practices traditional Chinese drawing and calligraphy. He learned these skills from a famous artist named Zheng Shenglong. He even uses his science to make art. Once, he used a sensor to launch a meteorite firework. He has also used tiny amounts of carbon from famous paintings to make graphene. He believes that both artists and scientists need curiosity and imagination to succeed.
