It grew from a place called Igodomigodo. Long ago, the rulers were called Ogiso. They lived in a forest. The forest gave them fish and wood. It also gave them ivory for carving.

Later, the rulers took a new name. They were called Obas. One great leader was Oba Ewuare. He made the city very strong. He built big walls and deep ditches. These walls helped keep the people safe.

At its height, the kingdom was very rich. The people were amazing artists. They worked with metal like brass and iron. They also carved ivory. They made beautiful heads and wall plaques.
