Geoffrey of Monmouth wrote about Arthur in the 12th century. His book included Arthur's father, Uther Pendragon, and the magician Merlin. It also mentioned his wife, Guinevere, and the sword Excalibur. Later, a French writer named Chrétien de Troyes added the Holy Grail. He also wrote about the Knights of the Round Table. These stories changed how people thought about the legend.

Historians have a big debate about whether Arthur was a real person.

Some old books like the Historia Brittonum mention him. This book says Arthur fought twelve different battles. One famous event is the Battle of Badon. Some believe he fought the Anglo-Saxons in the late 5th century. The Annales Cambriae also mentions a battle at Camlann. This was a battle where Arthur and Mordred were both killed.

However, many modern historians do not believe Arthur was real.

They say there is no clear proof of his life. Some early writers did not even call him a king. They used words like "leader of wars" or "soldier" instead. One writer named Bede mentioned the Battle of Badon. But Bede did not mention Arthur at all. He named a different leader named Ambrosius Aurelianus instead. This makes the history of Arthur very tricky to study.

Even without proof, the legend of Arthur stays very strong.

People still love his stories in the 21st century. You can find Arthur in movies, plays, and television shows. He also appears in comics and many other types of media. The stories change every time someone tells them. This is why there is no single version of his life. The wonder of the legend keeps it alive for everyone.
