Kim Dong-in was a very important Korean writer.

He was born on October 2, 1900, in Pyongyang. This city was in the Korean Empire. Kim helped start new ways of writing in Korea. He used realism to show real life. He also used naturalism to show how life shapes people. He believed in "art for art's sake." This means art should be beautiful for its own reason. He did not want stories to just teach lessons. He wanted literature to be its own special thing.

Kim's writing style was very clear and objective.

He used short and precise words in his stories. Many of his works focused on a pure aesthetic view. This means he cared deeply about beauty and art. He wrote about artists who were obsessed with perfection. One example is his story "Sonata Appassionato" from 1930. He also wrote "Gwanghwasa Temple" in that same year. These stories showed his focus on the feeling of art. He wanted his prose to be very elegant.

Kim grew up as the son of a wealthy landowner.

He went to school in Japan to study. He attended the Meiji Academy in Tokyo. He also went to the Kawabata School of Fine Arts. He decided to leave school to become a writer. In 1919, he helped start a magazine called Creation. This journal was made in Japan. He worked with other writers like Joo Yohan and Kim Hwan. They wanted to change how Korean stories were told.

Kim wrote many famous stories during his life.

His story "Potato" was published in 1925. It was a very important book for realism. The story is about a woman facing hard times. He also wrote "Distinguished Statement" in 1924. Other works include "The Young Ones" from 1930. He even wrote historical novels like "Great Prince Suyang." In 1946, he wrote "The Traitor" after Korea was free. He died in Seoul on January 5, 1951.

His stories are still famous and loved today.

Many of his books have been turned into movies. The story "Potato" became a film in 1968. A director named Byun Jang-ho made it again in 1987. You can also find his stories in English books. One collection is called "Sweet Potato" from 2017. People in Korea still honor his great work. In 1955, a magazine started the Dong-in Literary Award. This prize celebrates writers who achieve great things. It helps keep his memory alive for new readers.
