The Khitan people had many tribes. These tribes worked together. They even had their own ways to write. 
They built a great land called the Liao dynasty. This group ruled a very big area. It covered parts of China and Mongolia.
Later, some Khitan people moved far away. They started a new group in a new place. This group lasted for many years.
Today, some people are related to the Khitan. Their story is still a part of our world.
The Khitan were a group of people from East Asia. 

The Khitan people had many tribes. At first, eight tribes shared power. They took turns being the leader. Later, a group called the Dahe clan unified them. They used a new way to pick leaders. They chose people based on talent. 
The Khitan founded the Liao dynasty. This ruling family led a very large area. They ruled parts of Siberia and Northern China. They had two ways to write their language. One was called the Khitan small script. 
In 1125, the Liao dynasty fell. Many Khitans moved west to start a new group. This group was called the Qara Khitai. It lasted for nearly one hundred years. Today, the Daur people are related to the Khitan.
The Khitan people were a group of nomadic people from East Asia. 
At first, the Khitan were organized into eight different tribes. 
The Khitan are most famous for leading the Liao dynasty. 

In 1125, the Liao dynasty fell after an invasion by the Jurchen people.
