Kenneth Hale was a man who loved languages. He was a linguist, which is a person who studies how people talk. He worked at a big school called MIT. Kenneth studied many languages that few people used. These are often called endangered languages. He traveled to places like Australia to learn them.

Kenneth was very fast at learning how to speak. He learned many languages from his friends and roommates. He even learned a language called Warlpiri. He spoke it so well that he taught it to his sons. He believed every language is important. He said a language with ten speakers is just as special as one with millions.

He wanted to help people keep their own ways of talking. He taught native speakers how to study their own languages. This helped them protect their culture. Many people still honor his work today. There are awards named after him. These awards help students study and save languages that might be lost. He was a voice for people whose languages were quiet.
