It was written many hundreds of years ago. The book tells stories about the kings of Ethiopia.

One main story is about Queen Makeda. People also call her the Queen of Sheba. She traveled to meet King Solomon in Jerusalem. The book says they had a son named Menelik I. Menelik later traveled to see his father. When he went home, he brought the Ark of the Covenant with him. The Ark is a very holy object.

Many Ethiopian Christians believe these stories are true. They feel a strong bond to this book. However, many modern scholars have a different view. They think the stories were made up. They believe the stories helped a new ruling family take power. Even so, the book remains a big part of Ethiopia. It holds many religious and national feelings. It is much more than just a simple book of tales.
