For a long time, scientists had a big problem. Using mRNA as medicine caused bad reactions. The body thought the mRNA was a germ. It tried to fight it. Karikó worked with a scientist named Drew Weissman. They found a way to fix this. They changed small parts of the mRNA. This change helped the body accept the instructions. They also found a way to wrap the mRNA in tiny fat droplets. These are called lipid nanoparticles. The fat droplets protect the mRNA until it reaches the right spot.
