At that time, Kamerun was a German colony in Africa. It was surrounded by many other lands. Britain, France, and Belgium all wanted to take the land.

The fighting lasted from 1914 to 1916. The German army was small at first. They had about 1,855 soldiers. Later, they grew to about 6,000 troops. The Allied forces were much larger. France could bring 20,000 soldiers to the fight. Britain could bring 7,550 soldiers from Nigeria.

Many battles took place. The Allies took the city of Douala in 1914. In 1915, German troops held strong spots like Mora and Garua.

They fought hard to keep their ground. But by 1916, the Germans could not win. The German leader ordered his troops to leave. They fled to a neutral place called Spanish Guinea.

After the war, Britain and France split the land. France took most of it. Britain took a smaller part near Nigeria.
