He loved using simple shapes. He used many squares and cubes in his work. Because of this, people called him "Square Hoffmann." He wanted his designs to be clean and simple. He did not like using too much extra decoration. Instead, he wanted everything to look natural and fit the space.

In 1903, he helped start a group called the Wiener Werkstätte. This was a workshop for artists and makers. They worked together to make a "total work of art." This meant they made everything in a house to match. They made the walls, the furniture, and even the dishes.

His most famous building is the Stoclet Palace in Brussels. It is made of white marble and metal. The inside has colorful mosaics and pretty wood floors. Every part of the house was planned to match. Today, the palace is a special UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of his designs, like his cutlery, are still made today.
