A striker is a player whose main job is to score goals. Many people believe he was the greatest goalscorer in the history of the sport. Some records say he is the third-most prolific scorer ever, after Erwin Helmchen and Cristiano Ronaldo. He scored over 950 goals in 624 official matches throughout his career. Bican was a tall and powerful athlete with great speed. He could run 100 metres in just 10.8 seconds. This made him very hard for defenders to stop.

Bican's journey to greatness began in a very difficult way. He grew up in a poor family in Vienna, Austria. Because his family had little money, he often played football without any shoes. This actually helped him develop amazing ball control skills. He also had to work in a factory to help his mother. Eventually, he found that scoring goals could help earn money for his family. One club official even promised him a shilling for every goal he scored. This helped turn his talent into a way to support his loved ones.

His professional career took him through several important clubs. He started at Rapid Vienna in 1931 and played there for four years. After a time with Admira Vienna, he moved to Slavia Prague in 1937. He stayed with Slavia Prague for eleven years and became their all-time top scorer. During his time there, he scored 591 goals in 301 official games. He also played for other teams like Vítkovice, Hradec Králové, and Dynamo Prague. He finally retired in 1955 after a long and successful career.

Bican achieved many incredible records during his playing years. He was the top scorer in his domestic league 12 different times. In one amazing season at Slavia Prague, he scored 57 goals in only 26 matches. He also set a world record for the longest scoring streak in a European top division. He scored at least one goal in 19 games in a row. This record lasted for 73 years. According to UEFA, he was the leading scorer in European top-flight leagues with 518 goals. This put him just ahead of the famous player Ferenc Puskás.

Today, we remember Bican as one of the most successful players of the 20th century. In the year 2000, the IFFHS gave him the "Golden Ball" award. This award recognized his status as a master goalscorer. He also received a "Medal of Honour" in 1998 for his great achievements. Even after he stopped playing, he stayed in the sport as a manager. He coached many different teams from the 1950s until the 1970s. His life shows how hard work and talent can change a person's future.
