John Rawls was a famous thinker.

He wrote many books about being fair. He thought about how to help everyone in a group.

One idea was called "justice as fairness." He said people should have equal rights. He also said we should help those who have the least.

He used a special way to think. He called it the "original position." Imagine you do not know who you will be. You do not know if you are rich or poor.

Because you do not know, you pick fair rules. You would not pick rules that hurt people. You want everyone to be safe and well.

Many people still study his big ideas today. He helped change how we think about rules.
