John Rackham was a pirate in the early 1700s. He worked in the Bahamas and Jamaica. Many people call him "Calico Jack." But most records only call him John. He is famous for having two women on his crew. Their names were Anne Bonny and Mary Read.

Some books say he was a pirate for a long time. They say he served under a captain named Charles Vane. They say Rackham helped lead a vote to replace Vane. However, there is not much proof for these stories. Most records show he was a pirate in 1720.

In August 1720, Rackham stole a small ship. He and his crew took several fishing boats. This caused trouble for people in Jamaica. Soon, a man named Jonathan Barnet found them. Barnet used guns to stop Rackham's ship.

Rackham and his crew were caught and put on trial. The court found them guilty. John Rackham was executed in November 1720. Anne Bonny and Mary Read were also part of the trial. They were both pregnant at that time. This helped them avoid their punishment for a while.
