He lived from 1579 to 1636. Johannes was born in a small village called Freberga. His father, Jöns Thordsson, was a miller. A priest named Magnus Andreae noticed how smart Johannes was. This priest helped him learn many things. Later, Johannes went to a special school in Braunsberg. He spent seven years studying there. This school was meant to train boys for a specific kind of religious life.

After his school years, Johannes traveled across many lands. He visited Denmark in 1602. In 1603, he spoke at a dinner for Bishop Piotr Tylicki in Kraków. He also visited Rome in 1604. Because the weather was hard, he moved to Germany. He might have earned a degree in Ingolstadt in 1605. Some say the Emperor Rudolph II even called him a special poet. Eventually, he moved to Danzig. There, he opened a school and married Lucia Grothusen.

Johannes returned to Sweden to find a better life. He wanted to get back his father's old farm. At first, things were difficult because the King was suspicious of him. However, his wife helped him get permission to stay. He became a professor at Uppsala University. He taught law and politics to many students. He was very popular with them. He used new teaching methods from his school days. He also wrote many books about the history of Sweden.

Johannes was also a writer of plays. He liked to write about old Swedish legends. His most famous plays were called *Disa*, *Signill*, and *Swanhuita*. These plays were very popular and were printed many times. He even wanted to write 50 plays about all of Swedish history. He used historic clothes in his stories to make them feel real. Even though some people thought his writing was simple, his work was very original. He helped make theater a popular activity for young people in Sweden.

Life was not always easy for Johannes. He had many arguments with other teachers at the university. This caused big fights between the students too. In 1616, he was accused of a serious crime. He was sent to a lonely prison called Kajaneborg in Finland. The commander there treated him very harshly. Even in prison, Johannes kept working on his books. He wrote a huge history called *Scondia illustrata*. He died in Oulu in 1636.
