Johannes Kepler was a famous German astronomer and mathematician.

He is known as a father of modern science. His work helped start the Scientific Revolution in the 1600s. Kepler studied how the stars and planets move through space. He also wrote about music and how light works. His many books changed how people thought about the universe.

Kepler discovered the laws of planetary motion. These laws explain the way planets travel around the Sun. He also did important work in the field of optics. Optics is the study of how light behaves.

He even designed a better version of the refracting telescope. This tool uses lenses to make distant objects look larger. This new design became the base for modern telescopes used today.

Kepler was born on December 27, 1571, in Weil der Stadt.

His childhood was not always easy. He was born early and often felt sickly. When he was six, he saw a great comet in the sky.

At age nine, he saw a lunar eclipse. He remembered the Moon looking quite red during that event.

As an adult, Kepler worked with a famous astronomer named Tycho Brahe.

Tycho lived in Prague and had very accurate data about the stars. Kepler became his assistant to help solve big math problems. Later, Kepler worked for Emperor Rudolf II and his successors.

He also worked as an imperial mathematician. This job helped him use Tycho's data to prove his theories.

Kepler's ideas helped many other great thinkers. For example, Isaac Newton used Kepler's work to help explain gravity.

Kepler also wrote a story called Somnium. Some people call him the father of science fiction because of this book. His life shows how math and observation can unlock the secrets of space. He helped us see that the universe follows a logical plan.
