He studied how people live and how they use things. He was very interested in media and technology. He also looked at how we understand the world through signs. A sign is something that stands for something else. Baudrillard believed that signs create meaning by being different. For example, a dog is a dog because it is not a cat.

He had a big idea called hyperreality. This is a state where things feel more real than they are. He thought that too many images and signs could hide the real world. He also studied how people buy things. He believed that we often buy things to show something about ourselves. Baudrillard was a professor at several universities. He lived in Paris for much of his life. He liked to use an old typewriter to write his books. He felt a physical connection to writing with it. He also enjoyed taking photos with a camera. He died in 2007 at the age of 77.
