Wenner has spent his life working in the world of media. He has owned many different types of magazines over the years.

Starting a magazine is a big job that takes many steps. In 1967, Wenner wanted to start Rolling Stone in San Francisco. He did not have all the money he needed at first. He borrowed $7,500 from his own family members. He also borrowed money from the family of Jane Schindelheim. Jane later became his wife.

These funds helped him launch his new business.

Wenner grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was the son of Sim and Edward Wenner. He attended the Chadwick School and finished there in 1963. Later, he went to the University of California, Berkeley. While he was a student, he was part of the Free Speech Movement.

He even wrote a column for a student newspaper called The Daily Californian. He left the university in 1966.

His career has had many important moments and facts. Rolling Stone moved from San Francisco to New York City in 1977. By the year 2006, the magazine was selling 1.5 million copies every two weeks.

That same year, the magazine published its 1,000th edition. It had a special 3-D cover that looked like a Beatles album. Wenner also helped many famous people like photographer Annie Leibovitz find success.

Sometimes, Wenner has faced hard jobs and much criticism. People have argued about his magazine reviews being biased. He also had a difficult relationship with the writer Hunter S. Thompson.

In 2023, he faced criticism for comments about music artists. This led to him leaving a board for a music foundation. He later issued an apology through his publisher. His life shows how much influence one person can have in media.
