Jan Žižka was a famous leader from Bohemia.

He was born around the year 1360. His family was part of the lower nobility. This means they were of a higher social class but did not have much money.

Early in his life, Žižka faced hard times. He was once called an outlaw. He lived as a bandit for a while. This happened because of fights over land and money. Later, the King of Bohemia pardoned him.

Žižka became a great soldier. In 1410, he fought in the Battle of Grunwald. He was a mercenary during this big war. He later joined the Hussite movement. This was a group of people with new religious ideas.

He was a very smart general. He used special wagon forts to protect his men. These wagons had small cannons on them. He also used the land to hide his troops. Even when his armies were small, he always won.
