Hus had many new ideas about the Church. He thought some leaders were acting wrongly. He spoke out against selling indulgences. These were papers people bought to get forgiveness for sins. Hus said true forgiveness comes from being sorry in your heart. He also thought the Church should not use power to fight wars.

Church leaders did not agree with him. They asked him to take back his words. Hus refused to change his mind. He was arrested and taken to the Council of Constance.
